Back in the day when steamboats traveled up and down the Red River, they would dock along Commerce Street in Downtown Shreveport. They docked there because the river came all the way up to Commerce Street back then. The area that is now Clyde Fant Parkway was part of the river. The train bridge swivel was once in the middle of the river, but now on dry land due to the shifting of the river.
